Cooking and eating chestnuts is a delightful experience, especially during the colder months. Here are some different options to enjoy chestnuts:
Boiling: Place scored chestnuts in a pot of boiling water and cook for about 15-20 minutes until tender. Drain and peel while still warm.
Grilling: Scored chestnuts can be placed on a grill over medium-high heat and cooked for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally until the shells split open and the insides are tender.
Microwaving: Place a handful of scored chestnuts in a microwave-safe dish and microwave on high for 3-5 minutes, or until tender. Check periodically to avoid overcooking.
Frying: Heat some oil in a skillet over medium heat and add scored chestnuts. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the shells split open and the insides are tender and golden brown.
Steaming: Place scored chestnuts in a steamer basket over boiling water and steam for 15-20 minutes until tender. Remove from the steamer and peel while still warm.
